BATBC earnings jump by 47% in Jan-Mar'20

BATBC's EPS was Tk16.87 for January-March'20 as against Tk11.44 for January-March'19

Publicly traded cigarette company, British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company Limited's (BATBC) earnings per share (EPS) rose 47% in the first quarter (January-March'20) of this year  compared to the same period of previous year.

According to an official disclosure, posted on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) website on Thursday, BATBC's EPS was Tk16.87 for January-March'20 as against Tk11.44 for January-March'19.

As a result, the multinational company's EPS rose by Tk5.43 or 47% in three months. Its net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk215.72 on March 31, 2020.

Senior officials at the company told Dhaka tribune that the significant rise of earnings had been caused due to higher sales volume before national lockdown due to Covid-19 from March.

The multinational company's EPS was Tk51.37 for the year ending on December 31, 2019 as against Tk55.62 for 2018. Its earnings declined by 7.64%.

The company disbursed  400% cash dividend for the year ending on December 31, 2019. It disbursed a 500% cash and 200% stock dividend for the year ending on December 31, 2018.

BATBC was listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange in 1977. The food sector company belongs to the “A” category.

The company’s paid-up capital is Tk180 crore. A share of the company closed at Tk 907.60 on Thursday.

British American Tobacco holds 72.91% of sponsor directors shares; 6.84% is owned by Investment Corporation of Bangladesh; Shadharan Bima Corporation, Bangladesh Development Bank Limited, and 20.61% is owned by other shareholders.
