The government has extended the tenure of Dr M Khairul Hossain as the chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) by two more years.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday.
The notification said that Khairul Hossain will continue in the position of BSEC chairman for another two years starting May 14, 2018. He will continue to have a rank of senior secretary. The conditions of his contract will remain unchanged.
Khairul Hossain joined the BSEC as chairman on May 15, 2011. After the completion of his first three-year tenure, the government reappointed for four years, as per the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (Amendment) Act 2012.
Khairul Hossain was a professor of the department of finance at Dhaka University. Prior to joining the commission he was the chairman of the board of state-owned Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) from September 2009 to May 2011.
He was born in Gawdia village in Lohajang, Munshiganj. He earned a PhD degree from Plekhanov Russian University of Economics in 1983. Previously he obtained his MS degree in economics from the same university.
He has been working relentlessly to establish the capital market on a strong foundation of transparency, stability and discipline. Many important reforms have been implemented with his leadership utilizing the merits, skills and expertise of all the commissioners and officers of the commission.
