The new date for the hearing would be announced later

Update : 24 Mar 2020, 10:06 PM

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on Tuesday cancelled the third public hearing on service quality of telecom operators scheduled for March 30.

“The public hearing was cancelled following the shutdown declaration by the government to tackle the coronavirus outbreak,” BTRC Senior Assistant Director Md Zakir Hossain Khan told Dhaka Tribune.

The new date for the hearing would be announced later, he said.

Recently, the commission at a meeting decided to hold the hearing following upward trend of complaints from the mobile phone subscribers.

On November 22, 2016, BTRC had held its first ever public hearing on quality of services while the second hearing was held  on June 12 last year.

BTRC officials said the public hearing would help improve quality of services of the operators on the basis of customers’ feedback.

In last January, the telecom regulator revealed that it had received as many as 14,037 complaints in 2019 regarding mobile phone operators’ poor services. However, BTRC said they resolved 5,222 complaints and rest of the complaints were either in progress or yet to be solved.

Customers mostly complained about SIM bar, network issue, quality of service, tariff issues and mobile number portability.
