Hold dialogue, resolve crisis: FBCCI

Update : 15 Apr 2013, 11:49 AM

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (fbcci) yesterday urged the top leaders of the two major political parties to sit for a dialogue and thus break the current political standoff.

“Let us compromise from everybody’s respective position, if necessary. Let us help the nation get rid of the political disunity and dispute,” fbcci President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed said at a meeting with editors and heads of newspapers, television channels and news agencies at Dhaka Club.

He said the government will have to be sincere in addressing the logical demands of the opposition while the opposition needs to refrain from calling hartal. “All problems should be resolved through dialogue.”

Akram said the nation will remember their contributions towards resolving the political crisis peacefully if the political parties sincerely act to that end.

“We expect a coordinated effort to establish a country having political and economic stability. We want to increase investment both in private and public sectors to see a higher economic growth,” he said.

The fbcci president expressed hope that the media would play a vital role in helping the political parties reach a consensus.
