Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (Beza) has launched plot allocation prospectus for prospective investors at Jamalpur Economic Zone (JEZ).
The launching program took place at a Dhaka city hotel on Thursday.
Private Industry and Investment Adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Salman F Rahman, MP, inaugurated the launching as chief guest.
In April 2016, Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) approved the construction of JEZ for industrial hubs including jute products, readymade garments, consumer goods and food items.
Beza is implementing the project over 436 acres of land in Jamalpur Sadar at a cost of Tk302 crore.
The prime minister laid the foundation stone of JEZ on April 3 this year.
Salman said the implementation of JEZ would create job opportunities for about 32,000 people directly.
Beza Executive Chairman Paban Chowdhury said: “The development work of filling of soil, constructing gas line, electricity and water connections and other deployments have already been completed at JEZ.”
He said, the full construction work of the economic zone would be completed by June 2020.
Paban added: “65% of the land will be used for factories. The rest will be used for tree plantation, housing, administrative buildings and roads.”
Principal Coordinator on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Affairs of Prime Minister's Office Md Abul Kalam Azad, Mirza Azam, MP, Major General Moin Uddin (Retd), chairman of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) spoke at the launching ceremony, among others.
