BNP secretary general said people will reject the proposed budget in the same way they rejected the election
People will not accept the proposed national budget for the 2019-20 fiscal year, as it will create pressure on them and increase social inequality, BNP has said.
"The national budget of Tk523,109cr is highly ambitious. It will create direct pressure on the masses," BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.
He said this while giving his party's formal reaction to the proposed budget at a press conference in the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office on Friday, reports UNB.
"The rich will become richer and the poor will become poorer if it is implemented," he said.
Fakhrul said the budget will not fulfil people's hopes and aspirations, as it has been formulated against their interests.
"The people will not accept the budget, just as they did not accept the last election," he said
The BNP secretary general further said that middle and lower middle-class people will suffer the most if the budget is implemented, as a huge amount of VAT (value added tax) has been imposed on them.
The BNP leader also claimed that the government did not formulate the budget in a way that would address the main problems of the common people.
