Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal is placing the Tk5,23,190 crore budget at the House on Thursday
The government has proposed to allocate Tk28,051 crore for the power and energy sector for the 2019-20 fiscal year–which is 12.57% higher than the sum proposed in the outgoing fiscal year.
The allocation grabs 5.36% of the budget outlay that Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal is placing at the House on Thursday.
However, the stake of the fresh budgetary allocation remains the same as that of the 2018-19 fiscal year.
The total national budget—amounting to Tk5,23,190 crore—for the forthcoming financial year is the highest ever in the country and the first of the Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
Of the new allocation, the Power Division occupies the lion’s share of Tk26,065–with the rest proposed for the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
For the 2018-19 fiscal year, the government had proposed allocating Tk24,921 crore for the power and energy sector; which was Tk3,803 crore or 18% higher than the allotment given in the FY2017-18.
The power and energy sector was allocated Tk21,118 crore in the fiscal 2017-18, a 45% increase from the revised budget of the prior fiscal year.
