The existing 0% rate will also remain same for importing life savings drugs and medical equipment

The existing zero percent import duty will remain unchanged for importing essential goods in the upcoming 2019-20 fiscal.

Goods like lentils, wheat, onion, edible oil, fertilizer, seed, raw cotton and raw materials for some industries will continue to get the exemption facility, according to the budget speech by finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed at the Jatiya Sangshad on Thursday.

The existing 0% rate will also remain same for importing life savings drugs and medical equipment.

However, for the sake of protecting local farmers, existing 25% customs duty and recently imposed 25% regulatory duty will remain unchanged on rice import.

The total national budget amounting to Tk5,23,190 crore for the forthcoming financial year is the highest ever in the country and the first of the Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
