'We laid emphasis on the development of an integrated transport sector combining road, rail, and waterways'
The transport and communication sector has received the biggest share of the development budget, with an allocation of around Tk47,831 crore under the proposed FY2018-19 budget.
The amount is around 26.6% of the total Tk1,79,669 crore development budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
According to the budget proposal, the Road Transport and Highways Division will receive Tk20,817 crore, Bridges Division Tk9,112 crore, Ministry of Railways Tk11,155 crore, Ministry of Shipping Tk2,905 crore, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Tk1,461 crore, and Posts and Telecommunication Division Tk2,381 crore.
“We laid emphasis on the development of an integrated transport sector combining road, rail, and waterways,” said Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith during his budget speech.
“Easing traffic congestion and safe transportation is another area where we will put our emphasis,” he added.
