Cricket World Cup pushes up TV sales

TV brands and retailers have already announced attractive offers and discounts on their goods also hoping to net the Eid shoppers

Different companies selling television sets are eyeing spike in their sales as fever of ICC Cricket World Cup, which began in England and Wales on May 30, seizes people.

People are visiting different showrooms of TV brands to pick the set of their choice. 

Omar Faruque, a businessman from Fakirapool, who came to Gulistan Bangabandhu Stadium market to buy a smart TV, said though he was thinking to buy a new television for long, he bought it just yesterday. 

“I was waiting for offers and discounts as different TV brands offer discounts on the occasion of Eid and World Cup. I have now bought a Sony 32 inch TV at Tk29,000," he looked happy.

Golam Mostofa, another customer from Armanitola, also came to buy TV at the Gulistan market. 

He said: " We already have two TV sets in our house but they are not smart TV. I and my children are cricket fan, and so this year I have decided to buy a smart TV to watch World Cup matches on a large screen."

“Besides, ahead of Eid and World Cup, TV companies are offering discounts. I want to avail this opportunity,” he said. 

TV brands and retailers say they usually experience good sales ahead of World Cup football and cricket game.  

Tanzid Ahmed, sales executive of Sony showroom at Lalmaita, said: "Usually on the eve of world cup, our sales increase. This year, Eid is an added dimension." 

Special offers for World Cup

Different TV brands such as Samsung, Walton, Transcom Digital and Singer have come up with lucrative offers to cash in on the increased demand. 

Local electronics company Walton has cash-back offer for their customers. 

Tanvir Mahmud Shuvo, assistant director of Walton, said on the occasion of Eid as well as World Cup Cricket they offered up to Tk11,000 cash-back in their TV sale. 

“Besides, we have also price reduction offer in our different model TV sets," he mentioned.

The price of a 24-inch LED TV has come down to Tk8,990 from its regular price of Tk12,500, 32-inch LED TV to Tk12,990 from Tk17,500, and 32-inch smart TV to Tk18,990 from Tk22,900.

A 39-inch smart TV is also available at Tk19,990 against the regular price of Tk33,900 and 43-inch smart TV at Tk22,990 instead of its regular price of Tk36,900. 

“Ahead of World Cup, we are expecting to sell more than eighty thousands TV sets of our brand,” he   projected. 

Saidul Hasan, sales executive of Transcom electronics, said there were a lot of offers and discounts on their TV sets on the occasion of Eid as well as World Cup cricket. 

For Samsung TV, there are about Tk2,000 to Tk200,000 discount offer on selected models. 

Besides, customers are getting exchange offers of up to Tk35,000. Additionally, customers are also entitled to scratch cards that offer cash-backs up to Tk50,000.

There are also offers on combo purchase of two TV sets in which the customers will get five percent cash-back. On a combo purchase of three TV sets, the cash-back will be eight percent. 

Singer Bangladesh has allowing their customers to buy a 32-inch Singer TV at Tk19,990 with a down payment of Tk4,400. The rest can be paid in monthly installments through credit cards. 

There is also cash-back offer up to Tk7,000 with a purchase of Singer TV. 

Vision, LG, Panasonic, Sharp, and many others are also making offers and discounts to woo buyers.
