Tofail: No reason to increase the prices of the commodities this Ramadan
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Wednesday said there is no reason to increase the prices of commodities this Ramadan. Speaking to journalists at his home in Bhola’s Gazipur, he said: “There is enough supply of commodities compared to the demand, and TCB will start selling products in open market from May 6.” At the time, he exchanged views with the businessmen who were affected by the fire that broke out at the Manohari Patti in New Market on Friday night. The minister distributed Tk15 lakhs to 52 affected businessmen, reports BSS. Tofail said: “There is enough stock of sugar, dates and pulses in the market for the consumers, so there is no reason for any kind of price hike in the market.” “If anyone charges more money to make undue profit then strict action will be taken,” he added. The minister said that a project has been passed to bring back the navigability of the Bhola canal. He said: “Many big boats sailed through this canal once. It will be renovated to bring the canal to normalcy.” Deputy Commissioner (DC) Masud Alam Siddique, District Council Chairman Abdul Momin Tulu, Municipality Mayor Moniruzzaman, and Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Mosharraf Hossain also spoke there.
