The second tea auction centre of Bangladesh has started its journey in Sreemangal town, Moulvibazar.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith inaugurated the much awaited trading centre at Khan Tower area of the town on Friday morning.
With a total of 133 tea estates, Sylhet contributes to 90% of the tea production in Bangladesh.
But the entire market of was dependent on lone tea auction centre of Chittagong and it has been a longstanding demand to establish a parallel tea auction centre in Sreemangal.

In his speech at the inaugural function, AMA Muhith said he himself took an initiative to establish a tea auction centre in Shreemangal as a finance minister back in 1982.
The minister also stressed the need for expediting research to boost tea production so that the potentials of tea export could be fully realised.
The inaugural function was held at Zila Parishad Auditorium. Bangladesh Tea Board and Moulvibazar district administration jointly organized the event.
