Current vice-president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin will lead the country’s apex trade body for the next two years.
The newly elected and nominated directors of FBCCI lent their support to him on Tuesday.
Mohiuddin's panel Sammilito Ganatantrik Parishad bagged 34 out of 36 directorial seats in the election the board of directors held on Sunday. The other panel – Babosayee Oikya Forum – led by Qazi Irteza Hasan secured only two posts. Of the two, one is Irteza Hasan and the other is Helena Jahangir, who represents the National Association of Small and Cottage Industries of Bangladesh.
Mohiuddin had been nominated as a director from Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Fazle Fahim, who represents Gopalganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was elected as the first vice-president and Muntakim Ashraf, who represents Bangladesh Cold Storage Association as vice-president respectively.
Fahim was elected unopposed, while Ashraf secured 1,105 votes.
This year, two panels contested for 18 directorial posts among 36, while the remaining 18 directors had been elected unopposed.
