The Mercantile Bank Ltd is set to celebrate its 19th anniversary on Saturday.

“This is an important milestone,” said Kazi Mashiur Rahman, managing director and CEO of the bank, during a press conference held at the bank’s head office in Dhaka on Wednesday. “Over the years, Mercantile Bank has progressed further than other first generation private banks.”

Since it was established, Mercantile Bank has maintained a sustainable growth, the CEO said. “Its goal is not only to make profits, give loans, and get deposits, but also to build trust.”

Al-Haj Mosharref Hossain, director of the bank, highlighted several charitable activities run by the bank, like the donation of ambulances to different public hospitals.

“We are with the people from all classes. We spend at least 1% of our total profit for the underprivileged; we do it from a place of responsibility,” said Mohd Selim, another director.

“We are also preparing to set up a hospital in Uttara to fulfil the dream of this bank’s founder, Md Abdul Jalil,” said ASM Feroz Alam, vice-chairman of the bank.

In 2017, the bank shared 22% of its profit with its shareholders, said M Amanullah, chairman of the bank’s risk management committee.
