Bangladesh Bank in a circular on Sunday said banks of 9 districts will remain closed on May 15 due to elections.
All the branches of the concerned areas, including the regional offices in the election areas of 9 districts of Chattogram, Khulna, Jashore and Bogura, will be closed.
According to the circular sent to the chief executives of the banks, on May 15, the branches of the regional offices will be closed for the convenience of voting for the officers and employees of the banks located in the respective areas, including Khulna City Corporation.
The circular mentioned that apart from Khulna city corporation elections, elections of Talora Municipality of Bogura will be held on May 15.
Union Parishad elections of the following areas will be held on the same day - Kalpaniya Union Parishad of Sandwip upazila of Chittagong district, Dadhosgram of Chandpur, Mujibnagar of Bhola, Pona Balia of Jhalokati district, Hariharnagar of Jashore, Fazlupur of Gaibandha and Panchgaon of Munshiganj.
Another circular issued by Bangladesh Bank said all branches, including regional branches of banks and non-banking financial institutions located in the relevant election areas, will be closed on May 15.
