“After two years, the newly-elected government will get benefits from the commission's recommendations,” the minister said while attending the Sonali Bank annual meeting at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in Dhaka.
He said: “Initially, I opposed the idea of forming a banking commission. But now we feel that it is needed for the betterment of our financial sector.
“However, the banking sector is yet to gain the capacity to form a banking commission.”
Muhith hoped that once formed, the commission would suggest the government the ways to curb corruption and change the loan defaulting culture.
