IUB was placed 3rd among all Bangladeshi universities listed in the ranking, with a world ranking of 2137.

Research.com is an online research portal that provides rankings and analysis of scientists and universities across major academic disciplines.

Its rankings are based on bibliometric indicators, including publication and citation data collected from academic databases such as OpenAlex and CrossRef.

Research.com’s institutional profile for IUB also lists the university in Microbiology, where it is ranked first in Bangladesh and 527th globally.

The profile lists one scientist in the discipline – Prof. Dr. Shah M Faruque from the Department of Life Sciences of IUB, with 153 publications and a total D-index of 66.

IUB recently ranked the number one private university in Bangladesh in the Nature Index institutional rankings and came first in Bangladesh in the Physical Sciences category.

With the Research.com ranking placing IUB first in Bangladesh in Microbiology, the university is now recognized as Bangladesh’s top university in two major scientific research disciplines by two international research ranking platforms.

IUB Vice Chancellor Prof M Tamim said: “These results show that IUB’s research strength is becoming visible across more than one scientific field. Our focus will remain on supporting serious research, building stronger academic groups and encouraging work that meets international standards.”

Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Daniel W Lund said: “Rankings based on research data are important because they reflect measurable scholarly output and impact. IUB’s performance in Microbiology and Physical Sciences points to the quality of work being done by our faculty and researchers.”

According to Research.com, the ranking is based on bibliometric data from sources including OpenAlex and CrossRef. OpenAlex is an open database of scholarly works, authors, institutions, journals, and research topics.

CrossRef is a global registration agency for research outputs and their Digital Object Identifiers, or DOIs, which help identify and link scholarly publications.

Research.com said each institution’s position was determined based on the sum of D-indexes, or Discipline H-indexes, of affiliated scholars who met the qualifying threshold.

The D-index measures a researcher’s publication and citation impact within a specific discipline.

The H-index is a widely used indicator that measures both the productivity and citation impact of a researcher’s published work.

Bibliometric data for the ranking was collected on November 27, 2024. The ranking examined 279,971 scientist profiles across major scientific disciplines and considered scholars with a qualifying D-index threshold of 20 or higher.
