One's fortune may just open up due to another's misfortune. As India's tea production went on a steep decline last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, production in Bangladesh amped up, causing local tea prices to rise. It has been on the up and up ever since, while tea workers' daily wages have also gone up from Tk 102 to Tk 120 as the workers have been observing different protests, including work abstention, demanding a hike in wages and bonus. Nevertheless, 86.39 million kilograms of tea were produced in 167 tea gardens and 7,000 small farms in the northern part of the country last year, overshooting the target of 75.94 million kg. The photos were taken at a tea garden in Sylhet recently.
