Rising fuel prices: Inland container depot association raises charges by 23%

The Bangladesh Inland Container Depots Association (BICDA), the operating organization of the 19 non-governmental ICDs at the Chittagong port, have announced a 23% hike in the charges of five services.

Although they announced the hike on November 8, the increased charges have been effective from November 4, said BICDA.

Under the new rates, the import handling package charge for 20 feet containers in five types of services has been increased from Tk7,930 to Tk9,754.

On the other hand, the charge for the same service has been increased from Tk9,150 to Tk11,255 for 40-feet containers.

The export stuffing package charge for 20-feet containers has been raised from Tk4,140 to Tk5,092.

On the other hand, the charge for 40-feet containers for the same service has been increased from Tk5,520 to Tk 6,790.

Lift on and off charges, VGM charge, and haulage charge have also been increased by 23%, the association said.

Md Ruhul Amin Sikder, secretary of the BICDA, said that the government has increased the tariffs for all the services that use diesel-powered equipment due to the rise in diesel prices.

“So, we have no other option but to raise the charges. These charges have been increased in line with the increased price of diesel,” he added.
