The country's first ever space sharing platform "Chaya" has raised $45,000 in pre-seed funding from investors.

Mohammad Maaz Mamoon and Isra Mamoon invested on the startup, which connects homeowners and businesses with users looking to book a space for their needs, according to a press release.

With a vision to simplify the process of renting and booking spaces, the platform creates access to underutilized private and commercial spaces.

“This is a big step in our journey, and we’re excited to be going forward into providing solutions for a major problem that affects thousands of individuals around the country," said Mehraab Anwar, COO and co-founder of Chaya.

Being the first peer-to-peer space sharing marketplace in Bangladesh, Chaya helps individuals/businesses earn money by listing their spaces such as homes, rooftops, restaurants, resorts, photo-studios and more.

“We plan to open doors and access to a network of housing that fulfills the needs of people who are struggling to find reliable housing in safe areas,” said Farhia Tabassum, CEO and co-founder of Chaya.

The startup was conceptualized by the two in early 2019, when they were hired to shoot content for a friend’s clothing brand.

The founders found themselves at a loss when trying to find a space to conduct the photoshoot.

They approached a friend and asked if they could rent the friend’s home for a photoshoot. With demand meeting supply, they realized that this could be scaled to solve a major problem using technology.

With an aim to create access to underutilized private and commercial spaces, the founders were on their way to develop a marketplace.

They reached out to co-founder Armaan Choudhury to help grow the company and develop the product.

Chaya plans to expand into a new vertical with the amount raised –– as they look to bolster the team, and onboard a network of homes across the country to create access to easy living, the release also said.
