Starting its journey amid an ongoing global pandemic in October 2020, logistics start-up Gontobbo Courier saw the number of deliveries it made per day increase from 30 to 1,200 within just eight months.

According to the company, between January and April 2021, it earned Tk4 crore in revenues.

After securing Tk5 lakh in seed money, the company's current paid-up capital stands at Tk60 lakh. It aims to raise Tk5 crore in capital by 2022.

The secret to Gontobbo’s success, according to its CEO, is competitive rates.

“At present, there is no such logistic company in Bangladesh that can provide a Tk55 flat-rate for next-day home delivery across Dhaka without underlying complex policies,” said Shariful Islam Rukon, the managing director and CEO of Gontobbo.

Two other market leaders of the same category charge Tk50 and Tk70 respectively for the same service of delivering parcels up to 1kg.

While some service providers charge Tk90 for parcels weighing up to 2kg, it costs Tk80 for others with an accumulation of Tk30 per kg of added weight. Gontobbo, in contrast, charges Tk15 per kg of added weight, thus charging Tk70 for a 2kg parcel.

It also does not charge an additional 1% cash-on-delivery charge, unlike other market players.

While market leaders either ask customers to safely wrap parcel belongings or charge an extra amount for safe packaging options, Gontobbo provides a special polybag for every parcel that ensures privacy, durability, contamination-free product that is protected from harsh weather, Shariful said.

“We want to lead the evolution in both e-commerce and traditional logistics by integrating technology to deliver a superior experience to both our clients and customers,” he added.

Currently, Gontobbo Courier has 28 employees. Additionally, it has over 70 riders inside Dhaka and another 90 plus outside the capital.

It offers doorstep delivery, express delivery, same-day delivery, next-day delivery, nearest parcel pickup point collection, smart return management, and cash collection facilities for its online merchants.

Gontobbo provides service through all 64 districts across the country across cities and unions. It plans to start delivering products internationally and start a marketplace with its sellers.

“Gontobbo has established itself as a prominent enabler of businesses through its strong logistics experience and customer satisfaction,” said Sarah Rahman, owner of Samas Caraven and a customer of the company.
