Bangladeshi flyers can now rejoice, as they will be able to experience first-class suites as Emirates intends on launching the service on its wide-body Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, starting from March 1.

Passengers can enjoy a fully flat bed, personal electrically controlled mini-bar, electrically operated privacy dividers and a wide-screen 32” HD LCD screen in their private suite.

They can also enjoy regionally-inspired gourmet meals and more than 4,500 channels of visual and audio entertainment on the airline’s award-winning ice system.

They can also enjoy the luxury of the first class lounge at Dubai airport and complimentary chauffeur-driven airport transfers, amongst many other privileges.

The airline is currently the only international carrier to offer such a service currently, as stated in a press release they issued on the day.

The aircraft will have a three-class cabin configuration, offering six private seats in first-class suites.

A round trip on the Emirates first class will cost passengers more than Tk 3 lakh, 6-7 times more than the usual airfare.

The Boeing aircraft will also have 41 passengers seats in business class and 213 spacious seats in economy class.

The Dhaka-Dubai EK-585 will leave the Bangladeshi capital at 1:00 am and arrive at 4:25 am Dubai time, while the return flight EK-584 will depart Dubai at 3:45 pm and land in Dhaka at 11:00 pm local time.

The introduction of a first-class suite is a first in Bangladesh, although British Airways and Singapore Airlines had both introduced first-class services earlier, but was forced to shut it down later due to low demand.

“There is no first-class suites service in Bangladesh from Biman Bangladesh Airlines. We only have business and economy classes,” said Tahera Khandaker, deputy general manager (media) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

“We cannot say that passengers do not ask about first-class tickets, as it is costly and luxurious. But currently, in Bangladesh there are no first-class services,” said Aminul Islam, director of Ether Travels and Tours.

"If Emirates begins to offer the first-class suite service, we hope the demand from the elite class people will be met," he added. Other travel agencies including GoFly also echoed similar sentiments.

Qatar Airways is also contemplating whether they can launch first-class flight services or not.

Emirates currently operates 15 weekly flights to/from Dhaka, set to increase to 16 weekly flights starting 4 March - connecting passengers to more than 90 destinations within its global network, via Dubai.
