About 1.2 million children in Bangladesh are engaged in child labour
Ending child labour by 2025 is one of the targets under the Sustainable Development Goals. About 1.2 million children in Bangladesh are engaged in child labour, according to estimates. But the global coronavirus pandemic stands to increase the number. The two children pictured were in school previously. But their mother, a garment worker, lost her job back in April, leaving the onus of running their household on their father, a rickshawpuller. The two have been taken out of school and now they chip in with the household expenditure by collecting plastic and polythene from the dumping grounds in Fatullah, Narayanganj. The photo was taken on Tuesday.
