GEARING UP FOR SECOND WAVE

People are scrambling to stock up on surgical masks just before the second wave of coronavirus sweeps across the country. Each day, vendors at the old Dhaka’s Babu Bazar wholesale market sell upwards of two lakh units of the single-use face masks, which come in packs of 500 or thousand and retail at Tk 1,900 and Tk 2,400 respectively.In the first month of the pandemic, there was an acute shortage of the equipment that guards against the lethal pathogen, which has so far claimed 6,544 lives and infected 458,711 in Bangladesh.The photos were taken on Saturday.
