Global ICT solutions provider Huawei picked 10 outstanding infrormation and communication technology (ICT) talents, out of 500 competitors from different renowned universities of Bangladesh, for study trip to its headquarters in China.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic this year, the selected students would receive the training and experience online, Huawei said in a press release.
Traditionally, the champions would go to China for a study trip for two-week, as Huawei had been organizing the event in Bangladesh for the last five years.
The winners were announced in a virtual gala event titled 'Seeds for the Future 2020' on Wednesday.
They were selected based on their CGPA (Cumulative Grade Points Average), spot examination and their presentations on new technology and innovative companies, it added.
The Seeds for the Future 2020 champions are Afsara Benazir and Khandaker Mushfiqur Rahman from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (CSE Department), Tasnia Sultana and Abdullah Al Miraj from Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (EEE Department), Rabeya Tus Sadia and Amit Karmakar from Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (CSE Department), Adiba Tabassum Chowdhury and Arifur Rahman from Dhaka University (EEE Department), and Faria Rahman and Foyez-ul Islam from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (EEE Department).
Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury, Huawei Asia Pacific Region Vice President Chen Mingjie (Jay), UNESCO Representative to Bangladesh Beatrice Kaldun and Chief Executive Officer of the Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Ltd Zhang Zhengjun were present, among others, in the gala event.
Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury appreciated Huawei's inatiative as it promoted grooming ICT talents of Bangladesh.
Beatrice Kaldun said, “ICT talent and innovative ICT solutions are needed to respond the Covid-19 challenges. Huawei, through the Seeds for the Future Programme, is supporting talented Bangladeshi youth to acquire the skills and cutting-edge knowledge in ICT area.”
Chen Mingjie said, “We have a huge amazing resources in youth in Bangladesh. Huawei has come up with program Seeds for the Future to find out the talent."
"With this project, we want to plant that visionary seed in their minds so that they can come up with new ideas to make this society fully connected and intelligent,” she added.
The 5-day online program will consist of compulsory courses, live-streamed sessions with Huawei experts and guest speakers, elective courses, and self-learning about Chinese culture, the release informed, adding that the core curriculum will cover 5G, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and many more.
The elective courses might vary from the digital economy, industry trends to leadership skills, the release said.
