US-based ride-sharing company DRiViLL is taking an initiative to provide free life insurance for its drivers.

Considering the livelihood and security of the drivers, the upcoming transportation network company is making all kinds of plans, a press release said.

Mohammad Wahid Ujjal, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of DRiViLL, said the free life insurance could be up to a maximum of Tk3 lakh.

DRiViLL is waiting to enter the Bangladeshi ride-sharing business to offer their services at reasonable prices.

Although the company was supposed to start in April, the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and some other related reasons hindered the process.

The ride-sharing company wants to provide its services as soon as the government permits and the coronavirus situation cools down, the statement said.

The service will begin from Dhaka and will run all over Bangladesh.

Wahid, an American citizen of Bangladeshi origin, said if any of its drivers die in an accident, their families will not be left behind.

And that is why the initiative of life insurance is being taken, he said.

For life insurance, every month, a driver must submit the driving report to the company. If there is a case for unsafe driving, speeding or violating traffic laws, life insurance will be considered cancelled, it said.

To reactivate the life insurance, a driver will have to wait at least 60 to 90 days.

Wahid said: "Life insurance will help our families even if its a little bit, but death is not desirable for any of us."

He also urged everyone to be safe and not to break the law.

In 2019, DRiViLL started its journey with offline service in New York and later spread their services in different cities. DRiViLL's current total funding is $6.7 million.

The CEO of the company said they will expand their services to several countries, including Nepal and the United Arab Emirates, by 2022.
