Renowned companies around the nation have been manufacturing hand sanitizers to meet the demand amid Covid-19
With no available vaccine or cure for Covid-19 at this time, hand hygiene is the most effective way to prevent the spread of the virus.
It does not only interrupt the transmission of Covid-19 but also prevent other common virus and bacteria like flu, colds, and pneumonia, says a press release.
Washing hands thoroughly with soap for at least 20 seconds is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to combat coronavirus.
However, handwashing is not possible everywhere, especially in public places.
Hence, alcohol-based hand sanitizers provide a quick and simple alternative. For this reason, there has been a significant surge in demand for hand sanitizers around the world, including Bangladesh.
Consequently, renowned companies around the nation have been manufacturing hand sanitizers to meet the demand.
However, since the outbreak of Covid-19, the demand has increased, and many companies around the nation have mushroomed to produce hand sanitizers as the demand keeps rising.
Some of these companies have also been manufacturing hand sanitizers without approvals from the relevant authorities.
According to WHO, hand sanitizers should have these three main ingredients – ethanol or isopropanol, glycerin, and hydrogen peroxide.
To kill any virus and bacteria, hand sanitizers need to have either ethanol or isopropanol alcohol.
Without these ingredients, any hand sanitizer will not serve the purpose it is meant to.
Few renowned companies around the nation are producing hand sanitizers according to the standards.
Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited has stepped up during this dire situation with a hand sanitizer duplicating the exact formulation recommended by WHO.
The product is being sold under the brand name "Berger Mr. Expert Advanced Hand Sanitizer."
In order to ensure compliance, the company has also received approval from the Department of Narcotics Control to produce the hand sanitizers.
AKM Sadeque Nawaj, general manager, marketing at Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited, commented: “To provide the consumers with the best and safest option for hand sanitizers, we decided to manufacture it by following the formulation set by WHO, which we believe will help to alleviate the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic.”
