Workers of Fakir Knitwear Ltd staged the demonstration at the Shaheed Minar premises of Chashara area to protest against two of their colleagues falsely being framed in a vandalism case related to their apparel factory
Readymade garment (RMG) workers on Monday staged a demonstration in Narayanganj to protest allegations of false cases against two of their colleagues and also to demand their reinstatement to work.
Sources said workers of Fakir Knitwear Ltd staged the demonstration at the Shaheed Minar premises of Chashara area to protest against two of their colleagues falsely being framed in a vandalism case related to their apparel factory, as a result of which they were also terminated from work.
The protesting workers said they demonstrated for their full wages and demands before Eid-ul-Fitr, which the factory management promised to clear in time. But instead of doing that, they filed a false case of vandalism accusing 100-150 of its workers of damaging valuable factory property.
The police arrested two as a result, while the law enforcers were still harassing the others, they alleged.
They (the workers) rejected accusations of vandalizing factory equipment and premises, challenging the authorities to show proof of such misdeeds.
Contacting Md Saidur, general manager (operations) of Fakir Knitwear Ltd, he said the accusations against the related workers were true, as the protesting workers manhandled management personnel while protesting and vandalizing.
He hoped the law enforcers would take strict actions against those guilty.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, inspector (intelligence) of Narayanganj Industrial Police-4, said the protesting workers previously demanded 50% of their wages and festival bonus before Eid, while assaulting a senior factory manager in the process.
The factory authorities filed a case with the police in this regard, and the police were investigating the matter, he added.
