National Bank Limited, a concern of Sikder Group of Companies, has claimed that the case filed against Sikder Group Managing Director Ron Haque Sikder is false and fabricated.

A statement, signed by Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder, was issued to the media in this regard on Wednesday.

In the statement, NBL authorities claimed that Ron Haque Sikder did not apply for a Tk500 crore loan from Exim Bank.

They refuted the allegations made in the case filed by Exim Bank with Gulshan police station over the alleged incident of torture and attempted murder of Exim Bank's Managing Director (MD) Md Haider Ali Mia and Additional MD Md Firoz Hossain on May 7.

“This case (filed by Exim Bank) is baseless and fabricated. The only purpose of this case is to socially defame Ron Haque Sikder, National Bank Limited and its board of directors,” said the statement.

“Two directors of Sikder Group allegedly tortured and attempted to murder Exim Bank's MD Md Haider Ali Mia and Additional MD Md Firoz Hossain by shooting at them, after they refused to appraise the formers’ mortgaged property’s value at a higher level for a loan.

“Exim Bank authorities had filed a case accusing Sikder Group Managing Director Ron Haque Sikder and his brother Dipu Haque Sikder for the incident on May 19,” said Gulshan police station Officer-in-Charge SM Kamruzzaman.
