Protests continue in Savar

Workers of an RMG and steel factory at Ashulia and Dhamrai protested over due wages in Savar yesterday.

They kept the Dhaka-Aricha highway blocked for several hours.

Police rushed to the spot and had to use water cannon and tear gas shells to disperse the agitating workers.

Witnesses said workers of Magpie Group at Amtala area in Ashulia protested over non-payment of their due wages. The workers of Sarker Steel at Balitha area in Dhamrai went for similar action.

Later they gathered on the Dhaka-Aricha highway and blocked vehicular movement for several hours.

Workers stage demo in Narayanganj

Hundreds of workers of a garment factory staged demonstrations on Saturday in front of the Shaheed Minar at Chashara demanding their pending salaries before Eid-ul-Fitr.

Workers of HR Fashion, located in Fatullah upazila’s Hajiganj area, gathered demanding payment of their due salaries.

They alleged that the factory management had promised to pay their wages for March and April on multiple occasions, but reneged on the promises every time.

Md Sohel, owner of HR Fashion, said he was trying his best to pay all the due wages of the workers before Eid.
