Update : 19 Feb 2020, 05:48 PM

A group of Bangladesh Bank (BB) officials on Wednesday held demonstrations on the bank premises against a deputy governor, alleging that he misbehaved with their association leaders at a meeting on Tuesday.

Over two hundred central bankers joined the demonstration for an hour starting around 9:30am.

The protest was organized by Bangladesh Bank Officers' Welfare Council, Dhaka and Bangladesh Bank Officers Association, Dhaka.

Bangladesh Bank Officers Association President Mohammad Hossain said: "We went to meet deputy governor Ahmed Jamal  on Monday with some of our demands. But he behaved rudely with us that triggered a protest against him."

The demands include expanding the ceiling for home loans, improving the services of staff bus, establishing a canteen, addressing the due promotion-related issues, and improving the service quality of day-care centres.

The officials on Tuesday also submitted a memorandum to BB Governor Fazle Kabir for taking action against Ahmed Jamal and meeting their legitimate demands.

The protestors also demanded that Ahmed Jamal be removed from the human resources management department of the central bank.

Asked if, being officials of the central bank, they could demonstrate or hold rallies, Mohammad Hossain said they held the protest before the office hour.

Talking to Dhaka Tribune, BB Executive Director and Spokesperson Md Sirajul Islam said: "Council leaders submitted a memorandum to the governor. However, the governor has not issued a directive to take any action on the matter yet."
