Four international exhibitions on readymade garments (RMG) kicked off on Wednesday at International Convention City, Bashundhara in the capital to showcase latest machinery and technology of printing and garment accessories.

In the four-day events, 450 companies from 24 countries are showcasing their made garment accessories and packaging goods, latest machinery, printing technology and trendy fabrics and yarns.

The four exhibitions are GARMENTECH Bangladesh 2020, International Yarn & Fabrics Sourcing Fair, GAP Expo-2020, and PACKTECH Bangladesh 2020.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi inaugurated the events as the chief guest.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Rubana Huq and Bangladesh Garment Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) President Md Abdul Kader Khan were present, among others.

The BGAPMEA, Zakaria Trade and Fair International, ASK Trade & Exhibitions Ltd  jointly organized the programs, which are open for all at free of cost.

Since Bangladesh is the second largest exporter of apparel items after China, global manufacturers of machinery and technologies have chosen Bangladesh as a potential market and the expos are arranged for bringing the makers and buyers under a common roof.

This is the 19th edition of the expo GARMENTECH Bangladesh, in which the participating companies are displaying the latest machines of Sewing, Knitting, embroidery, Laundry, Finishing, Dyeing, CAD/CAM, Printing, Cutting and Spreading in the event.

The 11th edition of the International Yarn & Fabrics Sourcing Fair  is showcasing the latest collection of natural and synthetic yarn and fabric and its blends both for woven and knit sectors.

Participants are exhibiting largest collection of garment accessories and packaging including Labels, Zippers, Tags, Tapes, Thread, Ribbon, Buttons, Rivets, Laces, hooks, Transfer Film, paper and ink etc in the 11th edition of the GAP Expo.

The PACKTECH Bangladesh are showing packaging and corrugation Technologies.

Addressing the opening program, Commerce minister Tipu Munshi said the country attained the second position in garment exports globally after China.

"We have immense potential for bagging more work orders," he said, adding that the entrepreneurs, however, needed bank loans at a lower interest rate for a rapid expansion of the business.

BGMEA President Rubana Huq said the entire RMG sector was in crisis now.

A total of 59 garment factories were shut down and 25,900 workers lost their jobs over the last seven months, which slowed down the sectors growth, she said.

The fairs will remain open from 11.00am to 7.00pm and will end on January 18.

Apart from the showcases events, some discussion programs on RMG sector are schedule to hold in the four-day fair.
