Ecnec approves 8 projects involving Tk5,142cr
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday expressed her concerns over the alleged low quality of development works and asked ministers and officials not to compromise the quality.
The premier was addressing the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) meeting at Planning Ministry as chair.
"In her address, the prime minister has directed the authorities concerned to ensure quality of development works," Planning Division Secretary Md Nurul Amin told reporters at a post-ECNEC press conference.
Eight projects involving Tk5,142.06 crore were approved.
The projects are Strengthening and Widening of Roads at Union and Upazilas in Dhaka Division (Tk2,606 crore), Export Competitiveness for Jobs (Tk1,012.12 crore), Irrigation Development Using Surface Water in Pabna, Natore and Sirajganj (Tk560.53 crore), Associated Infrastructure Development for Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City-2 (Tk344.93 crore), Renovation and Widening of Roads in Tourism City of Cox's Bazar by Planting of Mangrove Forests (Tk258.82 crore), Chattagram Hill Tracts Rural Development Project Second Phase (Tk224.50 crore), Protection to Veterinary Public Health Services (Tk73.26 crore) and Establishment of Telecommunications Network at Mirsarai Economic Zone (Tk61.90 crore).
Of the total cost, the government would provide Tk4,129.81 crore from its own funds while the remaining Tk1,012.25 crore would come as project aid, Nurul Amin said.
The ECNEC also scrapped a Railway Ministry project titled "Introducing Shuttle Train Between Bangabandhu Hi-Tech Park and Dhaka City" while directed the Ministry of Youth and Sports to recast a project styled "Construction of Stadiums at Six Selected Upazilas".
