A three-day Laptop fair began in the city on Thursday at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC), attracting many visitors including students and professionals.
Besides laptops, various accessories including mouse, pen drive, monitor etc were in high demand on the first-day of the fair.
Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar inaugurated the fair at a function at the Media Bazar Hall of BICC. The expo titled "ESET Laptop Fair-2019" will remain open from 10:00am to 8:00pm, until Saturday, and is organized by Expo Maker.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, laptop vendors said a large number of visitors came to the fair, and they were expecting huge sales in the exposition.
Mahabub Alam Rakib, managing director of Star Tech & Engineering Ltd, said they were focusing on showcasing all kinds of laptop devices at discounted prices.
“We have a stall this time at the fair to introduce and promote our products to the potential customers,” said Shadat Hossain, senior officer of Lenvo , adding, “We are hoping the sales figure will be satisfactory at the end of the fair.”

College student Shakhawat Hossain, hailing from Narayanganj, said he heard about the relatively lower prices of laptops at the fair with attractive offers and found it to be true.
He bought a Dell ‘Inspiron 15-3567’ laptop for Tk35,000 which came with a laptop bag and a T-shirt as gift.
Marketing Manager of Dell Bangladesh Protap Saha said: “This is the 21th edition of laptop fair. We are showcasing the latest products with free offers like scratch card, monitor and mouse.”
Besides, Tk500 boundless offers and 2 days and one night couple offer trip at Sara resort, Gazipur were also on Dell’s offer list, he added.
The fair has 1 titled sponsor pavilion, 4 sponsor pavilions and 26 mini pavilions.
Abu Zahed Moh Kawsar, executive product manger of Golden field told Dhaka Tribune that they were selling various laptop speakers, priced between Tk 600 to Tk11,800 with offer like giving away free umbrellas, wireless combos and pen drives.
Al Fuad, Business Development Manager (BDM) of Asus Global Pte. Ltd, said they launched latest model laptops including X509FL-8265U and X512FJ-8265U at the fair, with the tag price between Tk63,000 to Tk64,000.
“We are also offering scratch offers, antivirus installation facility, pen drive and mouse, “ he added.
Ibne Ira khan Rana, Executive manger of Walton said that they were offering 12% to 25% discounts on laptop and 15% on accessories at the fair.
Organizer Muhammad Khan said that visitors from all walks of life, including youth, flocked the fair venue to experience the latest innovations in portable computers.
“We believe the expo will break its record this year with the overwhelming participation of technology lovers. Global and local computer brands are participating the expo to introduce latest technology and innovations in devices,” Khan explained.
The entry fee for the fair is Tk30. Entrance to school students with uniforms or identity cards and physically impaired people is free.
