Bogra District Food Division organized the paddy procurement programme aiming to stop any unfair practices
Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Wednesday said paddy will be purchased from marginal farmers at a fair price to avoid any sort of irregularities in the agriculture sector.
The authorities concerned should purchase paddy from the growers directly so that middle men won’t be able to gain through creating unfair situation, he told the inaugural function of paddy procurement at Sutrapur in the town.
Bogra District Food Division organized the paddy procurement programme aiming to stop any unfair practices.
Majumdar said, “Any kind of irregularities regarding paddy procurement will not be tolerated… tougher action will be taken against the responsible person.”
Rajshahi Divisional Food Controller Md Moniruzzman, officials of different government organizations, among others, addressed the paddy procurement function with deputy commissioner Foyez Ahmed in the chair.
Bogra District Food Controller SM Saiful Islam said price of rice has been fixed at Tk36, paddy at Tk26 and raw rice (atap rice) at Tk35 per kilogram. A total of 78,356 tonnes of rice will be procured this year while 5,586 tonnes of paddy and 7,046 tonnes of raw rice will be procured, he added.
