14th Dhaka Motor Show kicks off

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said that Bangladesh will not import cars in future, but will manufacture them.

He made the remark after inaugurating the “14th Dhaka Motor Show 2019”; “5th Dhaka Bike Show 2019”; “4th Dhaka Auto Parts Show 2019” and “3rd Dhaka Commercial Automotive Show 2019” at the International Convention City Bashundhara on Thursday.

“We do not want to be dependent on others. We will manufacture our own cars, the minister said.

Speaking at the event, Humayun said the local market has a huge demand of automobiles so “it has to be retained by manufacturing cars locally”.

He further said: “Handing over this market to others will never be logical and we cannot only depend on imported cars.”

Humayun urged young entrepreneurs to come forward to invest in the local automobile industry.

Putting emphasis on developing “own brand” instead of assembling and importing cars, he said imported reconditioned cars would lose the market soon in the country due to the evolving modern automobile industry.

The industries minister said his ministry would provide all types of cooperation including land allocation to the entrepreneurs who come forward for local automobile brands.

The three day event has been organized by CEMS Bangladesh in association with CEMS Global which will end on March 16. The fair will be open to everyone from 10:30am till 8:30pm during these days.

Reyad Hasnain, MD of REL Motors Limited; Shawn Hakim, MD of Rancon Motorbikes Limited; Enamul Haque Chowdhury, director, Energypac Power Generation Limited;  Anis Ud Dowla , executive director, Karnaphuli Group; Meherun N Islam, president and Group MD, CEMS Global - USA and Asia Pacific was present in the ceremony as special guests.
