Uber, the world's largest on-demand ridesharing company, on Monday announced the launch of its operations in Sylhet, starting with their most popular product UberMOTO.

Bangladesh is currently the largest motorcycle ride-sharing market for Uber, said a press release.

In November 2018, Uber announced that with more than 100,000 driver partners—with nearly 2,500 weekly sign ups to drive on Uber—Bangladesh is expected to contribute to 25% of Uber’s growth in the South Asian region in 2019.

The company claimed that on average, customers can find an Uber in less than five minutes in both Dhaka and Chittagong and 13% of Uber’s rider base now use Uber almost six times a week.

"At Uber, we have a unique opportunity to combine global technological excellence with local knowledge and insight to provide convenient transportation options in our cities," Singh explained, adding that offering their services in Sylhet will provide new income opportunities to the people of the city.

"UberMOTO has proven to be the most efficient way to get around with an average speed of 16–17 kilometres per hour, better than 11–12 kilometres per hour on cars," Singh stated, adding that UberMOTO will provide a faster and more convenient option for connectivity in Sylhet.
