Four-day GAPEXPO-2019 concludes
Bangladesh Garments Accessories & Packaging Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) awarded 13 companies yesterday for their extraordinary contribution to the local garment industry and exports.
Planning Minister MA Mannan, handed over the gold, silver, and bronze trophies to the winners at an award ceremony held during the concluding session of the four-day GAPEXPO-2019 organized by BGAPMEA at Dhaka's International Convention City, Bashundhara (ICCB).
The awards were given in small, medium and large enterprises, and direct export categories.
The winners under small enterprises category are: Trims International, which received the gold trophy; Grace Accessories, which received silver trophy; and Poly Corr Packaging which received the bronze trophy.
Winners under medium enterprises category are: Siam Computerized Elastic Ltd (gold); KDS Poly Industries (silver); and Sans Packaging and Accessories Industries Ltd (bronze).
Awards in large enterprise category went to: Montrims Ltd (gold); KDS Accessories Ltd (silver); and Eltafil Accessories Ltd (bronze).
Montrims Ltd (gold), Simtex Industries Ltd (silver), and Al-Muslim Accessories were awarded for their excellence in direct exports.
Additionally, a special award was given to Nur A Nazneen Khan of Green House Ltd for excellence in women entrepreneurship.
Speaking at the event, the planning minister said that the local garment accessories and packaging industry is growing fast and that the government will continue its support to the sector.
"The government will provide all kinds of policy support to export oriented sectors," he said, adding that a possibility of offering cash incentives to the garment accessories manufacturers will also be considered.
BGAPMEA President Md Abdul Kader Khan said the country's garment accessories and packaging industry is now exporting various products after meeting local demand.
"The sector will fetch around $12 billion of the $50 billion export target of the ready-made garment [RMG] industry by 2021," explained Kader.
Mentioning that corporate tax for export-oriented industries was trimmed down to 12% from 35%, Kader urged the government to do the same for the garment accessories and packaging sector.
Citing Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data, he said that the country's garment industry has seen a growth of around 15.65% in the first six months of the current fiscal year (FY2018-19), while garment accessories and packaging sector secured an 8.5% growth.
Among others, Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Ahmed Jamal and National Board of Revenue (NBR) Member of Customs, Export, Bond and IT Sultan Md Iqbal, were also present at the award ceremony.
