Many leading furniture companies have come up with new designs and special discounts to attract customers at the Dhaka International Trade Fair 2019 (DITF 2019).

However, stall managers and salespersons say none of their offers are getting the response they expected.

Most of the furniture stores were almost completely empty except for the sales executives and a few wandering customers.

One customer at Hatil's furniture outlet said he was not really looking to buy any furniture,  but was “just window shopping”.

Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Md Mizanur Rahman, sales officer of Brothers Furniture, said: “Customers only visit our showrooms, but do not buy anything. Even after the attractive offers, we are not selling as much furniture as we expected. We hope customer turnout will increase in the next few days.”

Customers complained that the discounted prices are still "too much" and that they will wait until the end of the month-long fair to see if prices drop further.

"I think the prices of furniture will reduce during the last few days of the fair," said Rashedul Haque, a visitor at the DITF 2019.

Rumana Rahman, another customer at the fair said that she liked the designs of the furniture being sold at the trade fair, adding that the collection is better compared to the previous year.

Partex, Regal, Hatil, Nadia, Navana, Regal, Home-Touch, are all offering discounts on their products.

Furniture stalls are offering discounts ranging from 5% to as high as 25%. Some of the companies are also offering the facility of equated monthly installment (EMIs) to attract customers.

Nadia and Home-Touch Furniture are offering  up to 15% discount on their furniture, while Hatil Furniture is offering 5-15% percent discounts. Partex and Regal Furniture are both offering 20% discount on their products.

Golam Rabbani, in-charge of the stall of Delta Furnitures, said: “We are offering 10% discount for each home appliance.”

Products for sale in furniture outlets at the DITF 2019 include: wooden, metal and lamination board furniture; beds, sofas, and sofa-beds; dining tables; dressing tables; wardrobes; and bookshelves.

Some stores are offering free delivery of the purchased furniture inside Dhaka city, while deliveries outside Dhaka require extra charges.
