Within eight months of introducing 4G, Grameenphone Ltd has become the first operator in the country to achieve the 5 million 4G customer mark, despite the high price of 4G devices and relatively low penetration of such devices in the ecosystem.

Earlier in February 2018, Bangladesh saw the introduction of 4G followed by rapid coverage expansion by operators, ushering in a new era of digitalization in Bangladesh, with the promise of introducing high-speed internet to citizens.

According to a press release, Grameenphone’s Deputy CEO and Chief Marketing Officer Yasir Azman said: “We are humbled by the trust that the customers placed on our network and services. We are always committed to maintaining high standards and bring the best for our customers. Ookla, the global leader in internet testing and analysis has recognized us as the fastest network in the country.”

In recent times, Grameenphone also partnered with different stakeholders to reduce the price of internet-enabled devices, introducing digital services, and supporting startups to come up with new services.

Currently, over 36 million customers use the Grameenphone’s network to access the internet, making it the single largest internet service provider in the country.

“While rolling out the 4G network, we focused on quality rather than quantity and aimed to provide the best experience to our customers,” added Yasir.
