6th Bapa Foodpro International Expo 2018 inaugurated
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed has said the value of the annual agro export of Bangladesh will touch the $2 billion mark in the next two years.
According to Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data, in the fiscal year 2017-18, Bangladesh earned $673.70 million exporting agricultural products, which was 21.79% higher compared to $553.17 million in the fiscal year 2016-17.
The minister came up with the remark while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 6th Bapa Foodpro International Expo 2018, a three-day exposition on agro-processing, held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka on Thursday.
Bangladesh Agro Processors’ Association (Bapa) and Extreme Exhibition and Event Solution Ltd jointly organized the expo to showcase the success of Bangladesh and prosperity of the agriculture industry.
“Bangladesh has a good base in production of agricultural products. Bangladesh is the 3rd largest in vegetable farming, 4th in fish farming, and 7th in potato cultivation,” said the commerce minister.
“Growth of agricultural products is very good, and I am optimistic that in the next two years value of agricultural export will rise to $2 billion,” he added.
