IFIC Bank has put Moulvibazar’s famous Dusai Resort and Spa on auction for the nonpayment of a grand total of Tk87,56,17,862.70 in loans with interest.

The resort was established with a mortgage with IFIC Bank by former Moulvibazar 3 member of parliament and district BNP president M Naser Rahman- son of the late M Saifur Rahman- his daughter, and his siblings, becoming the first five star resort in the country. However, as the terms of the bank were not met, it has put the entire resort up for sale.

M Naser Rahman confirmed the sale of the resort on Saturday, after a notice was published in a national daily on June 5.

The 85-room resort, built in 2012, has a trained staff consisting of Sri Lankans, Thais, and Bangladeshis, and created quite a stir when it first opened.

Rresort receptionist Tayabur said: “I am not aware of the resort being put up for sale, and I cannot confirm any such matter. If you wish to inquire about this, you can send an e-mail at the address listed on our website.”

Dusai Resort and Spa Managing Director and president of Moulvibazar district BNP M Naser Rahman said: “We were under pressure from Bangladesh Bank, so we put the resort up for sale. We will resolve the matter next week. There is nothing worth reporting on here.”
