Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Sunday said the supply and price of essential commodities will remain normal during Ramadan as the country has sufficient stock of commodities.
“Businessmen or consumers do not need to be worried as the stock of essential commodities is higher than the demand,” he added.
The minister made the remark while addressing a review meeting with businessmen and representatives of different government bodies on the market condition of daily products in the conference room of the ministry at the secretariat, said a press release.
Alongside local production, he said, essential commodities including rice, edible oil, pulse, sugar, onion, garlic, ginger have been imported sufficiently. “So, there is no possibility of any price hike,” he added.
The minister urged the media to play responsible role, by publishing accurate and realistic reports.
Tofail said the government is providing necessary cooperation to the businessmen and traders to keep the supply of essential commodities stable.
Commerce Secretary Shubhashish Bose, and Food Secretary (In-charge) Shahabuddin Ahmad, were present at the meeting.
