The workers of Mobarakganj Sugar Mill made a human chain and brought out a procession demanding the realization of 15 points including the formal announcement of the 8th national wage scale with a minimum wage of Tk8,750. On Sunday, at around 9am, the workers conducted a human chain in front of the main gate of the sugar mill on the Jhenidah-Jessore highway for half an hour. General Secretary of Mobarakganj sugar mill labour union Atiar Rahman, Committee Secretary Md Kabir Hossain, Joint Secretary General Nazmul Islam, O ce Secretary Sheikh Akhtarul Haque, cashier Nazrul Islam, and others spoke at the event. The workers also brought out a procession. The activity was organized by the Workers Federation under sector corporations comprising of 80 trade unions that fall in the sectors of BCIC, steel and technology, sugar mills, jute mills and AFIDC. Speakers in the human chain said that in September 2017, the labour deputy minister assured that he would inform the parliament about the decision to declare the minimum wage for workers in nationalized sectors by December that year. However, the 2015 national wage scale has still not been realized. The workers warned that they would prolong their protests if the national wage scale is not declared by April 30.
