Bangladesh's telecom authority has revealed massive growth in the industry with around 9.6 million new mobile and 6.7 million internet subscriptions added by June this year.
According the statistics by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, mobile subscriptions increased by around 7% and internet users increased by around 9% compared to last year.
This comes after last year's drastic plunge in subscriptions that was caused by the drive against unregistered subscriptions.
Currently, there are around 135.9 million mobile subscribers and around 73.4 million internet users.
By June, mobile phone operator Robi gained around 13.7 million new subscribers - the highest gain compared to other companies compared to last year.
They have a total of around 39.6 million service users. However, Grameenphone is the still market leader with around 61.6 million subscribers.
While the other companies are gaining new subscribers, state-run Teletalk lost around 373,000 users.
