The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday directed Bestec Telecom Limited to pay its dues of Tk197.35 crore to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission.
The court also directed the BTRC to restore the operation of the International Gateway (IGW) operator.
The SC bench of Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Justice Hasan Foez Siddique and Justice Mirza Hussain Haider gave the order.
“The Appellate Division asked Bestec to pay the dues. The court also ordered the BTRC to restore the operation of the IGW company if it pays the outstanding amount,” said barrister Sayed Mahsib Hossain who moved the case on behalf of the regulatory authority.
Up until February 26, 2017, Bestec owed the BTRC Tk197.35 crore as annual licence fee, revenue sharing fee, VAT and late fee.
The BTRC cancelled the company’s licence on October 28, 2013 when Bestec owed the regulator Tk177 crore, which spiralled to Tk197.35 crore.
Bestec is one of the major defaulters among IGW operators. It started operation on March 7, 2013 after licence.
