ICT trade body wants tax exemption
ICT trade body leaders on Monday placed a 17-point proposal at pre-budget talks with the National Board of Revenue for the development of ICT sector. The proposal includes tax exemption from manufacturing laptop, computer and internet-based devices to achieve the target of $5 billion ICT export by 2021. The proposal was submitted at the pre-budget discussion while State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan was present. The pre-budget discussion was held at the Bangladesh Computer Council Auditorium. ICT experts and business leaders including Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) president Mostafa Jabbar, Bangladesh Association of Call Center and Outsourcing Secretary General Towhid Hossain, E-Cab president Rajib Ahmed and Data Soft Chairman Mahabub Zaman were, among others, present at the programme. State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak supported the 17-point proposal. He said tax exemption is required for achieving the target of $5b by 2021 through ICT export. If a manufacturing company gets chance to manufacture laptop enjoying tax exemption and sell it to local market at a cheaper price the company will make huge profit and give revenue to the government, observed Palak. State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan assured the trade body of considering their proposal relating to tax exemption. Chaired by ICT Secretary Subir Kishore Chowdhury, the function was also addressed by Zagangir Hossain and Parvez Iqbal, members, Tax Policy, National Board of Revenue.
