Recently, the company top brass sat with the Dhaka Tribune and shared his insight into consumer acceptance that thrives the business.
DT: How will you evaluate Samsung performance in Bangladesh market?
Md Muyeedur Rahman:
As a leading global mobile device provider with an annual sale of $250 billion, Samsung operates in more than 84 countries and regions with 490,000 employees worldwide, serving one third of the total world population. According to the inter-brand ranking, Samsung is ranked 7th best global brand in 2016. For the past five years, Samsung has been able to rank itself within top 10 and shown no slowing down on increasing its value.
Samsung is optimistic about its opportunities in Bangladesh that is also aligned with the digitisation of the country. In its 7th year of operation here, we have emerged as a leading mobile device company in the country. The company has upgraded its technology, and introduced various models of Samsung devices. Its market share has increased over the past years and due to the reliability of the devices, we have also managed to gain the trust and reliability of big corporates as our clients who prefer Samsung as their devices. Our continuously growing business and market share in smartphone industry encourages us to excel and perform even better in the coming days. Samsung along with its feature phones has now a wide range of devices ready to embrace the fourth generation of wireless mobile telecommunications technology, 4G.
Is it going to overtake other competitors in the market soon?
Samsung is the market leader in terms of market share value in the smartphone industry of Bangladesh. Due to its consistent innovation of technology, reliability, competitive pricing, brand image and superior service, Samsung has always been the first choice of consumers in most segments. It always works towards providing a range of devices at affordable prices to its customers. From our flagship and mid-range devices to our feature phones, we have a range of handsets for our customers to choose from at affordable prices. Providing superior service is also one of our strength and we strive to provide our valuable customers with the best service. Currently, we have strong presence in eight divisions in 49 districts with 75 service points. In 2017, we plan to increase coverage in more districts all over Bangladesh.
Our strong distribution network ensures that our products reach the most remote places of Bangladesh. We have also considered store expansion with more exclusive stores designed and maintained at international standards.
We also provide the best sales services. Our shops are equipped with trained and knowledgeable representatives who can provide consultancy regarding the most suitable products as per the needs of our customers. Samsung is also the only international brand in Bangladesh providing not only devices but also solutions like Knox for its corporate clients. We have major corporates in Bangladesh that take this solution from us.
What are the challenges in this market?
Samsung is currently facing difficulties due to cheap and hazardous parallel imports coming illegally from outside the country. This has increased the customer suffering since they cannot avail the after-sale services of such devices from service points. This has long been jeopardising Samsung reputation in terms of quality and safety issues of the products.
Do you have any good news for Bangladesh customers?
Samsung is very excited about providing the best offers to its customers. Following the success of the J2 Smartphone series we launched our new J2 series campaign where with the purchase of J2, J2 2016 or J2 Prime, our customers will get a gift box with a thematic T-shirt, attractive water bottle and a stylish phone back cover. We have partnered with Robi where Robi and Airtel subscribers can enjoy data bundle offer with this purchase. As you know, according to reports from the major handset importers of Bangladesh and public data, the total import figures of Galaxy J2 series smartphones in the last 15 months was a staggering 575,000 units which is the highest in the smartphone device industry in this segment, and with this success, Samsung added the Galaxy J2 Prime to the J2 smartphone series.
This is a super phone, and on pre-booking Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro customers will get an original and exclusive Samsung Scoop Bluetooth speaker for free. Customers can also pre-book this device online and at all authorised stores of Samsung till February 21, 2017.
Another new device will hit the market by end of February and another big surprise is coming very soon in the market that will elevate the customer experience to a whole new level. We are also partnering with Mobile operators to bring attractive offers for our customers and a dedicated loyalty platform exclusively for Samsung customers to present them with amazing offers.
