“An inquiry committee has already been formed to investigate into the irregularity,” said Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor SK Sur Chowdhury while talking to the reporters.
Sur, who is also the head of the committee, said: “Though the board had earlier decided to use 22 Karat gold in the crests that will be awarded to the best BB employees, finally the crests were made of 21 Karat gold instead of 22.
“It was just a mistake without any purpose but still we will find out the person who has committed the mistake,’’ said Sur.
Bangladesh Bank has selected 23 best employees in two categories for Bangladesh Bank Employees Recognition Award and the board approved the list on December 11. Award winners in “A” category are given a crest with 12 gram gold made of 22 Karat.
The award function was scheduled to be held yesterday but Governor Fazle Kabir canceled the programme for using the low quality gold in the crests.
“The invitees of the ceremony were informed about the cancelation of the programme through mobile SMS yesterday morning,” said Subhankar Saha, executive director of Bangladesh Bank.
The programme was canceled due to unavoidable circumstances, reads the SMS sent to the invited guests.
