Mofizur calls upon the government to reduce various aeronautical and non-aeronautical charges and enhance infrastructural facilities to make the country an aviation hub. In reply to a query, he said they have planned to launch Dhaka-Kathmandu and Dhaka-Guwahati flights also as next international destinations. “We are now exploring commercial viability on Dhaka-Kathmandu route while operation on Dhaka-Guwahati route will follow the suit after establishing the Bangladesh Consulate in Guwahati.” Kazi Wahidul Alam, aviation expert and editor, The Bangladesh Monitor, Md Hasibur Rashid, director of Novoair, Sohail Majid, head of Marketing & Sales, and high officials of the airlines were present at the press conference. The local carrier being strong, foreign carriers that once dominated the market are shrinking their aviation business. Novoair is successfully operating its flight on all domestic routes since January 2013. It started its overseas flight to Yangon from December 1, 2015. Return promotional fare for Dhaka-Kolkata-Dhaka goes about Tk9,999 (including all taxes), with weekly four flights on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. The flight will depart from Dhaka at 2:25pm and reach Kolkata at 3pm (Local Time) while departure from Kolkata is scheduled at 4pm (Local Time) and arrival in Dhaka at 5:35pm.
